Jamie Scarffe

I set out to create a cohesive body of work for my final year of study, exploring the ways in which the rich history of UK dance music, and the accessibility to this history through the internet, has resulted in a scene driven by nostalgia and a loss of a pervasive sense of the present obscured by a resilient past. This brought up the almost religion-like obsession of this scene, leading to a link between raving and religion, and the many similarities of these ways of life. My work is mostly concept based with a focus on the hand made and the physical, and whilst I enjoy researching the topics around my projects, I keep a focus on the visual and aesthetic at the forefront of my process and designs. I believe my work is not governed by form but it is often an important element of my designs.
